Remembering our friend John Knight

It is with the deepest sadness that I report the death of John Knight at the age of 71.

John was a wonderful man. He was the Vice Chair of the Trustees of the Derbyshire Unemployed Workers' Centres. After leaving engineering in the 1980s following illness, John volunteered at the DUWC becoming our first full-time fundraiser. He went on to head up the Trades Council's Trade Union Safety Committee (later TRUST) and oversaw the help and advice given to workers following industrial accidents and disease. In 2002, he helped set up the Derbyshire Asbestos Support Team. On retiring, he served in a voluntary capacity while his health allowed. He died after contracting Covid and a short spell in the ICU at the Royal.

John was well liked at work and in the wider community. We have a lost a great friend and comrade. We will miss him beyond words.
