Payable to people who become disabled as a result of an accident at work or an industrial disease. Can be payable even if a person continues or returns to work.
If you were disabled by the accident or disease before 1 October 1990, you may be able to get Reduced Earnings Allowance (REA) (part of the IIDB scheme). People who have reached state pension age and were entitled to Reduced Earnings Allowance may be able to receive Retirement Allowance, which is paid at a much lower rate than REA.
Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefits (IIDB’s) are not affected by your income, savings and capital, and you do not have to have paid national insurance contributions.
Who can claim?
You qualify if all the following apply:
More detailed information about IIDB, is available by contacting the DUWC Helpline on 01246 231441(we have many years of experience advising on the Industrial Injuries Disablement Scheme).
How much do you get?
You get IIDB for yourself. Amounts for your partner and children are not included. The amount you get depends on the extent of your disablement.
It is worth considering that IIDB payments are taken into account as income when calculating entitlement to some means-tested benefits.
