What we provide

The Derbyshire Unemployed Workers’ Centres has gained a fine reputation for the services we provide. Our work is recognised locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We provide advice, support, and representation for all who come to us for help. And we don’t just wait for people to come to us; we proactively make our services known to the hardest to reach and most vulnerable within our communities.

We offer:

  • Free, independent and confidential advice on benefit and credit entitlements
  • Benefit checks
  • Help filling in claim forms
  • Support and representation challenging decisions made by the Department for Work and Pensions, right through to tribunal if necessary
  • Help with Personal Independence Claims and advice, Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit and Carers Allowance
  • Assistance with queries regarding Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance.

What's more, our vast experience in the advice sector means that if we do not provide a service directly we can direct to someone who does!

Each year we deal with thousands of enquiries at our centres and outreach venues. We have recovered over six million pounds in lump sum payments and increased weekly benefits for the people of Derbyshire. This money is vital both for the recipients but also for the regeneration of the local economy. Money gained is mostly spent locally helping to preserve jobs and aid local businesses.

Our services are provided by a few paid staff and a team of volunteers across Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover, and Amber Valley.  We have a proven track record of training volunteers from our communities, many of whom move into employment.

To find out more about our services, visit the help and advice section of this website, or get on touch with one of our offices.
