DUWC has been providing advice, support and representation to local people since 1983. Our work would not be possible without the dedicated support of our volunteers. We are always seeking new and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as volunteers. If you're interested in lending your support to our cause, please read the information below and complete the application form. All of the staff at the DUWC started on a voluntary basis and we're hugely grateful for the time that people continue to commit to our organisation. Whether you are actively seeking work, looking to build you skills, or simply want to give something back to the community, DUWC is the place for you.
We provide volunteers with in-house training on the welfare benefits system, as well as access to a range of external training. You will work closely with our Volunteer Coordinator on a personal development plan, and will be given the opportunity to hold regular appraisals and progress meetings, to ensure you are getting as much from the role as possible.
How can I help the DUWC?
Our volunteers fulfil a number of roles and functions:
- Provide welfare rights advice at drop in sessions.
- Assist and support DUWC users in checking their financial entitlements and making claims.
- Provide administrative support to staff, and assist with data entry.
- Represent DUWC users in court at Social Security Appeal (we provide training to support this).
- Undertake research to help our campaigns and funding bids
- Lobby for change to bring dignity to our social security system.
We would welcome volunteers from the Chesterfield region, and various towns and villages where we provide support at our outreach locations. Initially, volunteers will be based in the Chesterfield HQ to learn the basic skills required to provide advice, before branching out to other locations if desired.
